Purple fruit character rests at the centre of this cup, with soft acidity and a pleasant wine-like quality offering tannic notes. We first tasted Verena and Henry Gaibor’s coffee grown on Finca Maputo seven years ago. It was delivered from their Bristol garage in a Robin Reliant. Unsure what to expect, we decided to include it in a blind tasting. Their coffee ended up outperforming every other cup on the table; we were struck by its delightful purple, effervescent character. We’ve returned to Finca Maputo every year since then.
