Hario Switch

Temperature
92°C (198°F)
Ratio
1:16 (15g coffee : 240g water)
Grind
30 clicks (1Zpresso J — medium‑fine)
Grind Adjustment

if sour: go finer — decrease 2–4 clicks and/or increase contact time by 10–20s. If bitter: go coarser — increase 2–4 clicks and/or reduce contact time/open the switch earlier.

Brewing Steps
  1. 1. Start timer at first pour. Place rinsed paper filter (if used) and pre-warm Switch and cup. Grind 15g coffee to setting above.
  2. 2. 0:00 — Bloom: pour 40g water evenly to fully saturate grounds, stir gently, close lid and let bloom for 30 seconds.
  3. 3. 0:30 — Mid pour: pour steadily to 120g by 0:50 (add ~80g), give one gentle stir to break crust and ensure even saturation.
  4. 4. 1:30 — Final pour: pour remaining water to reach 240g by 1:30, give a gentle swirl or stir, close lid and let steep.
  5. 5. 2:15 — Place Switch over cup and open switch to drain. Aim for total contact ~2:15–2:30 including drain. Serve immediately.
Pro Tips
  • 💡 Rinse paper filter and preheat vessel — removes paper taste and stabilises extraction.
  • 💡 Use the Switch to control contact time precisely: opening the switch earlier shortens extraction; holding it closed increases body and extraction.
  • 💡 Gentle, even pours and a single stir after major pours help highlight the coffee's floral and caramel sweetness without over‑agitating.
Troubleshooting

Sour → grind finer by 2–4 clicks, raise water temp 1–3°C or add 10–20s contact time (hold Switch closed longer). Bitter → grind coarser by 2–4 clicks, lower temp 1–3°C or open Switch earlier to reduce contact time.
