Hario Switch

Temperature
92°C (198°F)
Ratio
1:15 (15g coffee : 225g water)
Grind
1Zpresso J ~30 clicks (medium-fine; slightly finer than a V60 setting)
Grind Adjustment

if sour: make grind finer by 2–3 clicks (reduce clicks) and/or raise temp 1–2°C. if bitter: make grind coarser by 2–3 clicks (increase clicks) and/or shorten steep by 15–30s.

Brewing Steps
  1. 1. Bloom with 30g water for 30 seconds
  2. 2. Pour to 150g by 0:45 (steady pulse pour — pour in 2–3 gentle pulses to reach 150g)
  3. 3. Pour to 225g by 1:10, give 2–3 gentle stirs to homogenize, place lid and let steep until 2:15, then flip the Switch to drain
  4. 4. Total time ~2:15–2:45 (including drain); serve immediately
Pro Tips
  • 💡 Use the Switch as intended: full immersion then open to drain. Pulse pours and a short gentle stir after the final pour extract the chocolate richness and marmalade sweetness.
  • 💡 Key factor is grind consistency and timing — small click changes on the 1Zpresso J move extraction noticeably. Keep water temperature steady and use a scale/timer.
Troubleshooting

Sour → make grind finer 2–3 clicks, raise temp 1–2°C, or lengthen steep by 15–30s. Bitter → make grind coarser 2–3 clicks, lower temp 1–2°C, or shorten steep/extraction; check dose and avoid over-agitation.
