Hario Switch

Temperature
92°C (198°F)
Ratio
1:13 (15g coffee : 195g water)
Grind
1Zpresso J ~29 clicks (medium-fine; texture like slightly finer than coarse sand)
Grind Adjustment

if sour: reduce grind clicks by 2–3 (finer) and/or increase contact time slightly; if bitter: increase grind clicks by 2–3 (coarser) and/or lower brew temperature by 2–4°C

Brewing Steps
  1. 1. Bloom with 30g water for 30 seconds — gently stir to saturate grounds and release CO2.
  2. 2. Pour steadily to 195g total by 0:45 (use a slow concentric/zig-zag pour). After reaching weight, give one gentle stir to break the crust and ensure even extraction, then place lid.
  3. 3. At 2:15 flip the Hario Switch to open the valve and drain — let coffee pass through slowly, aiming to finish draining by ~2:45–3:00.
  4. 4. Total time and serving: total contact time ~2:30–3:00. Once drained, remove brewer, give a gentle swirl, and serve immediately.
Pro Tips
  • 💡 Use the Switch as designed: full-immersion until target steep time, then flip to drain for a clean but bold cup; a quick double stir after the main pour helps equalize extraction for this bold roast.
  • 💡 Key factor: consistent grind and stable 92°C water. For bold blends keep dose and ratio steady — small adjustments to grind or temp yield the clearest change.
Troubleshooting

Sour → make grind finer by 2–3 clicks, increase contact time slightly, or raise temp by 1–2°C. Bitter → make grind coarser by 2–3 clicks, shorten steep time, or lower temp by 2–4°C; also reduce agitation if over-extracting.
