Hario Switch

Temperature
92°C (198°F)
Ratio
1:16 (15g : 240g)
Grind
≈30 clicks on 1Zpresso J (medium‑fine; slightly coarser than a V60 grind)
Grind Adjustment

if sour: grind 1–2 clicks finer, if bitter: grind 2–3 clicks coarser

Brewing Steps
  1. 1. Bloom with 30g water for 30 seconds
  2. 2. Pour to 120g by 0:45 (pour steadily in a spiral to fully wet the puck)
  3. 3. Pour to 240g by 1:10, give one gentle stir, place the lid, let steep until 2:00 then flip the switch and allow to drain (~15–30s)
  4. 4. Total time ~2:15–2:30. Serve immediately.
Pro Tips
  • 💡 Use the Switch to its strength: full immersion during the steep then flip to drain for clarity — a single gentle stir after full pour helps extract the chocolate and caramel notes evenly.
  • 💡 Key factor is grind consistency and drain time — aim for a smooth drain after switching; if the drain is very fast or very slow, adjust grind by a couple of clicks rather than big jumps.
Troubleshooting

Sour → Underextracted: grind 1–2 clicks finer, raise water temp 1–2°C or add 15–30s of steep time. Bitter → Overextracted: grind 2–3 clicks coarser, lower temp 1–2°C or shorten steep by 10–20s.
