Hario Switch

Temperature
94°C (201°F)
Ratio
1:7 (20g coffee : 140g water)
Grind
Medium-fine — slightly finer than drip/Pour-over; for a 1Zpresso J start around 8–12 clicks (adjust to taste)
Grind Adjustment

if sour: grind finer by 1–2 clicks and/or increase steep time by 15–30s or raise temp to 95–96°C; if bitter: grind coarser by 1–2 clicks and/or shorten steep time by 15–30s or lower temp to 92–93°C

Brewing Steps
  1. 1. Bloom with 40g water for 30 seconds
  2. 2. Pour to 140g by 0:45
  3. 3. Close the Switch/valve and steep until 1:50, then open valve to let brew drain (gentle swirl or one quick stir before opening helps extraction)
  4. 4. Total time ~2:00. Serve immediately; use as a concentrated base for milk drinks or dilute with hot water to taste
Pro Tips
  • 💡 Use a firm, even pour and a brief (1–2 second) stir during bloom to ensure even wetting — this helps extract chocolate and almond notes cleanly
  • 💡 Key factor: grind/steep balance. Small grind tweaks (1–2 clicks) will strongly affect body and bitterness — adjust before changing temp or dose
Troubleshooting

Sour → grind finer by 1–2 clicks, increase steep by 15–30s, or raise temp to 95–96°C. Bitter → grind coarser by 1–2 clicks, shorten steep by 15–30s, or lower temp to 92–93°C.
