Delicate floral notes with stonefruit and tropical passionfruit sweetness. An exceptional example of the rare Java varietal.  This 100% Java microlot was produced by Carmela Aduviri in Copacabana, a small and remote settlement 180 kilometres from La Paz in the heart of the Caranavi province. Carmela has only recently begun producing Java — a rare variety with a long history of cultivation. Its name comes from the Indonesian island of the same name, where coffee was first introduced by the Dutch, directly from Ethiopia, in the early 19th century. It now thrives as an interesting alternative to the Gesha variety. Thanks to its incredibly distinct flavour profile, excellent cup quality, and high tolerance to disease, Java can be quite profitable to small coffee farmers. Carmela moved to the region when she was 25, and has spent almost 50 years working in coffee - all while raising eight children.
