Every year, Anastase Minani's coffee graces our menu, and it's always a highly anticipated treat. There's a certain excitement that comes with the mystery of just how exceptional it will be this season. With over 40 years of experience in the coffee industry, Minani is a founding member of the Dukunde Kawa cooperative and one of its largest producers, with 2,800 coffee trees planted on his farm in the Gakenke District, Ruli Sector. Dukunde Kawa cooperative members receive a fixed payment at the start of the harvest, followed by a second payment based on the profits from lots sold at higher-than-expected prices. Additionally, the cooperative offers support, including access to an agronomist, fertilizers, organic pesticides, and a model farm to showcase optimal coffee farming practices. While most coffee in Rwanda is processed at a centralized wet mill, where deliveries from various farmers are blended, Minani’s lot has been processed separately.
