Hario Switch

Temperature
92°C (198°F)
Ratio
1:16 (15g : 240g)
Grind
≈30 clicks on 1Zpresso J (medium-fine, similar to coarse table salt)
Grind Adjustment

if sour: make grind finer by 2-4 clicks and/or raise temp 1-2°C and extend steep 15-30s; if bitter: make grind coarser by 2-4 clicks and/or lower temp 2-4°C and shorten steep 15-30s

Brewing Steps
  1. 1. 0:00 — Add 15g coffee to the Hario Switch. Start timer. Pour 40g water (≈2.6× dose) evenly to bloom.
  2. 2. 0:30 — Gently stir the bloom once (5–6 strokes) to ensure all grounds are wet. From 0:30–0:45 pour the remaining water to reach 240g total. Keep the switch in the brew/immersion position (do not drain).
  3. 3. 2:30 — At 2:30 total brew time, flip the Switch to drain into your server. Allow drawdown (~30–45s).
  4. 4. Total time and serving — Total brew time including drain ≈3:00–3:15. Remove grounds, serve immediately. Taste and adjust next brew if needed.
Pro Tips
  • 💡 Use the Switch’s immersion capability: wet all grounds in the bloom and keep sealed for a clean, syrupy cup that highlights jasmine and candy-apple sweetness.
  • 💡 Key factor is grind/time balance — aim for the 3:00 total window; small grind tweaks (±2–4 clicks) will move the cup from sour → balanced → bitter.
Troubleshooting

Sour → grind finer 2–4 clicks, raise water temp 1–2°C or extend immersion 15–30s; increase total water contact. Bitter → grind coarser 2–4 clicks, lower temp 2–4°C or shorten immersion 15–30s; ensure you are not over-agitating during drain.
